Atoizu PHC Earns National Quality Certification Amid Staffing Crisis

Kohima: Atoizu Primary Health Centre secured National Quality Assurance Standards certification after scoring 91.12% during an external assessment on July 10 and 11, 2026. The National Health Systems Resource Centre officially notified the facility of this status on October 5.

The Atoizu Town Council held a ceremony to honor the team for their work. Chairperson Kitoli Naje led the felicitation for the staff, including Medical Officer Dr. Gihuka Chishi. The council recognized the achievement despite the ongoing personnel gaps.

Severe labor shortages plague the facility. The PHC currently operates with just two nurses and one doctor, even though the clinic requires constant 24-hour coverage. A pharmacist position also sits empty following the retirement of the previous staffer. These staffing constraints complicate efforts to maintain high levels of care. The team noted that the situation requires immediate attention, stating, "The staffing constraints underscore the need for continued support to sustain quality healthcare delivery in Atoizu."
