Assam Targets Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction

Guwahati: Assam could transform into a 10 lakh crore economy by the 2028-2029 fiscal year under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. BJP leader Bhupen Bora stated that the government has established a clear vision to achieve this economic milestone while prioritizing public welfare.

A major focus of this growth plan involves poverty alleviation. The administration aims to reduce the percentage of the population living below the poverty line from the current rate of 17 percent down to approximately 1 or 2 percent.

The government is also prioritizing public health, specifically aiming to improve maternal mortality outcomes. Current data indicates a maternal mortality ratio of 256 deaths per one lakh live births. Officials expressed confidence that targeted interventions will lead to a substantial decrease in these figures over the next five years, aligning with the broader developmental goals for the state.
