Assam residents protest recurring flooding in Sribhumi

Guwahati: Residents of Sribhumi, Assam, took to the streets on Monday, May 25, to protest against recurring artificial flooding caused by heavy rainfall. Local citizens blocked major thoroughfares, including Brajendra Road, Babyland Road, and Nilmoni Road, to express their frustration with the town's ongoing waterlogging issues.

Protesters accused the Sribhumi Municipal Board and local Member of Parliament Kripanath Mallah of negligence. They claimed that officials have failed to address the worsening conditions, leaving residents to deal with flooded streets, property damage, and frequent accidents every year. According to participants, no public representatives have visited the area to assess the damage during the current crisis.

The demonstrators voiced their anger over what they described as a lack of accountability from political leaders who seek votes but disappear when the community faces hardships. The protest served as a firm demand for a permanent solution to the infrastructure failures. Residents have warned that their agitation will continue until the government takes meaningful steps to prevent further flooding.
