Assam Government Overhauls Senior Police Leadership in Major Reshuffle

Guwahati: The Assam government cleared a massive reshuffle of its police ranks this week. High-level commanders moved across the state. The Home and Political Department issued the notification to fill leadership slots across Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General, and Senior Superintendent levels. These changes take effect once the officers step into their new posts.

Ratna Singha will officiate as IG of the Special Branch. Bijoy Giri Kuligam takes the lead as IG for BTAD in Kokrajhar. Kangkan Jyoti Saikia moves to IG of the Eastern Range in Jorhat. Prasama Sagar Changmai becomes IG for Fire and Emergency Services.

The shakeup hit the DIG tier hard. Dr. Robin Kumar takes on DIG of MPC while keeping his current role in the AP. Gautam Borah shifts to DIG of Border. Amrit Bhuyan moves to DIG of Special Branch. Sudhakar Singh leads the North Eastern Range in Tinsukia. Ranjan Bhuyan takes DIG of Security. Pranabjyoti Goswami moves to DIG of Administration. Rajen Singh steps in as DIG of Central and Hills Range. Y.T. Gyatso takes over the Western Range.

District leadership saw heavy churn. Partha Protim Das is the new SSP for Cachar. Veera Venkata Rakesh Reddy takes the lead in Nagaon. Other SSP assignments include Sarmistha Barua in Darrang, Ashif Ahmed in Biswanath, Nirupam Hazarika in Hojai, Nishant Saurabh in Morigaon, and Prakash Sonowal in Dhemaji. Swapnaneel Deka takes over as SSP in Golaghat. Mohan Lal Meena leaves for the Directorate of Forensic Science as its new director.

Battalion commands also shifted. Sanjib Kumar Saikia takes the 20th APBn in Panbari. Jyoti Ranjan Nath takes the 10th APBn in Kahilipara. The state also placed several 2021 IPS batch officers into new roles. Nitisha Sanjay Jagtap takes the State Crime Record Bureau under the CID. Rajat Kumar Pal moves to AIGP in Dergaon. Atul Kumar becomes AIGP of Welfare and Staff Officer to the DGP. Mahato Amitkumar Sidhiprasad takes the DCP Border post in Guwahati. Aman Prakash Meena joins the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Cell-C. Desai Tushar Uttam moves to Cyber Crime-II under the CID.

The official order noted the massive churn was handled "in the interest of public service."
