Guwahati: The Assam government shook up its police administration on August 7. Officials shuffled senior IPS and APS officers across IG, DIG, and SSP ranks. These moves aim to improve public service across the state. Officers take their new posts once they officially report for duty.
Ratna Singha now leads as Inspector General of Police (Special Branch). Bijoy Giri Kuligam takes the IG spot for BTAD in Kokrajhar. Kangkan Jyoti Saikia moves to IG (Eastern Range) in Jorhat. Prasama Sagar Changmai becomes IG of Fire and Emergency Services.
The DIG level also saw major changes. Dr. Robin Kumar takes on DIG (MPC) while keeping his current AP role. Gautam Borah is the new DIG (Border). Amrit Bhuyan heads to Special Branch. Sudhakar Singh takes the North Eastern Range in Tinsukia. Ranjan Bhuyan manages Security. Pranabjyoti Goswami handles Administration. Rajen Singh commands the Central and Hills Range. Y.T. Gyatso moves to the Western Range.
District leadership turned over as well. Partha Protim Das reports to Cachar. Veera Venkata Rakesh Reddy takes Nagaon. Sarmistha Barua goes to Darrang. Ashif Ahmed leads Biswanath. Nirupam Hazarika gets Hojai. Nishant Saurabh takes Morigaon. Prakash Sonowal lands in Dhemaji.
Other critical assignments include Mohan Lal Meena as Director of Forensic Science. Swapnaneel Deka heads to Golaghat. Sanjib Kumar Saikia moves to 20th APBn in Panbari. Jyoti Ranjan Nath takes the 10th APBn in Kahilipara.
The 2021 IPS batch also received new duties. Nitisha Sanjay Jagtap takes the State Crime Record Bureau. Rajat Kumar Pal heads to Dergaon. Atul Kumar becomes AIGP (Welfare) and SO to the DGP. Mahato Amitkumar Sidhiprasad moves to Guwahati as DCP (Border). Aman Prakash Meena manages the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Cell-C. Desai Tushar Uttam leads Cyber Crime-II. The Home and Political Department confirmed, "the transfers and promotions have been made in the interest of public service and will take effect from the date the officers assume charge."
