Guwahati: Assam officials canned a husband and wife team of drug inspectors today. The government ended their state service following separate corruption scandals. Both officers previously faced arrests by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.

Tejendra Saikia worked out of Jorhat. Agents nabbed him in 2024 for taking a bribe of Rs 4,000. He is out. His wife, Jahnavi Kalita, served as a drug inspector in Sivasagar. She faces a separate charge regarding assets disproportionate to her known income. The state confirmed their termination, noting, "The Assam government has now dismissed the husband and wife from service."
