Guwahati: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party is preparing for a major celebration on May 26 to honor 82 newly elected members of the Legislative Assembly. This event follows the party's decisive victory in the 2026 state elections, which secured them a third consecutive term in office.

The day of events will begin at 10:00 AM with an organizational meeting at the Sri Sri Damodardev Auditorium in Guwahati. This session will involve district and mandal presidents from across the state. At 6:00 PM, the focus will shift to the Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium for a grand ceremony.

Party spokesperson Pranjal Kalita stated that the BJP intends to recognize the contributions of 39 district presidents and 433 mandal leaders. This success was driven by 65 lakh members and 72,000 active workers across more than 31,000 polling booths. The party saw its vote share climb to 38 percent in 2026, marking a five percent increase over the 2021 election figures.

High-profile leaders are expected to attend the proceedings, including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, State BJP President Dilip Saikia, and Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita. The party described the gathering as a gesture of gratitude and an effort to strengthen its organizational roots in the state.
