Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein confirmed on September 14 that over 16,000 women in the state have earned Lakhpati Didi status. This program aims to boost annual household income to at least Rs 1 lakh through skill development, entrepreneurship, and financial support. Nearly one lakh women are currently active in 15,999 self-help groups across the state.
Economic growth remains the goal. Officials have identified another 36,000 women as potential Lakhpati Didis to scale the initiative. To support these networks, the government set up 1,488 primary-level federations and 91 cluster-level federations. Mein oversees the finance, planning, and investment portfolios and stressed the impact on local stability. “When women earn, families gain greater security, communities become more resilient and local economies grow,” Mein said.
The Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission drives this push. The state wants to build 30 Viksit cluster-level federations by March 2027. These institutions provide women entrepreneurs with better access to technology, finance, and new markets. Mein noted that moving women from simple participation to leadership remains the final aim for the state government.
