Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee members rallied outside Raj Bhavan in Itanagar on July 21. They condemned the detention of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in New Delhi. The protest followed a clash between police and demonstrators near the Prime Minister’s residence. Police used lathis and teargas to break up the gathering. Over 50 people suffered injuries. Roughly 100 protesters faced detention.
APCC president Bosiram Siram led the local response. He blasted the BJP-led Union government for using state machinery to stifle dissent. Officials including Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan failed to negotiate a release at the protest site. Singh spoke with Rahul Gandhi before the final crackdown occurred. Siram described the move as a dangerous escalation. "The BJP-led government has once again exposed its intolerance towards democratic dissent by using the police machinery to suppress the voice of the Opposition and intimidate students who are demanding justice for repeated examination irregularities," Siram said.
The Congress party demands the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. They blame him for systemic failures in the examination process. The APCC wants a full parliamentary discussion on these controversies. They are also pushing for the withdrawal of all FIRs filed against students in the capital. The party insists that police barricades will not stop their campaign for accountability. They promised to continue their agitation through peaceful means.
