Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu plans to visit the Siang, Upper Siang, and East Siang districts. He intends to meet with local residents, village elders, and civil society groups to discuss the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. Tensions are high. The Adi Bane Kebang and other community bodies have led the pushback against the development. The ABK-U specifically demands an immediate halt to all Pre-Feasibility Report activities currently underway in the region. The project remains a flashpoint for the area. Government officials continue to insist that they are not forcing the development on the public.
Khandu emphasized that his administration remains open to negotiation and will keep consulting with stakeholders. The state cabinet recently formed an Empowered High-Level Committee to manage the survey process and coordinate talks. The Chief Minister stated, "The state government is open to dialogue on the proposed mega project and is willing to hear concerns raised by organisations including the Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) and other community bodies from the Siang region." This visit offers a chance for direct interaction before the project progresses further.
