Shillong: President of India appointed Prof Arun Mohan Sherry as the Director of IIM Shillong. He will serve a five-year term at the management institute. Sherry arrives from IIIT Lucknow, where he acted as the founding director since 2019.
The new director plans to integrate emerging technology into the school curriculum. Artificial intelligence will drive research and data science initiatives. He expects this shift to redefine how students study business. "AI is a reality now. And since this is what we specialise in, we will give a new direction to business education," Sherry said.
Sherry also intends to grow undergraduate management programs to meet rising student interest. He believes technology kills geographical barriers for learners. He wants to boost global learning reach while focusing on lifelong education. He argues that fast-paced tech changes make old knowledge obsolete quickly. "As technology is advancing, changing so fast that what one is learning today is outdated tomorrow. That's why continuous education and learning are the key," he said.
He brings over thirty years of experience to the role. He previously held leadership spots at NMIMS, IMT Ghaziabad, and HCL TalentCare. Sherry holds an MTech from IIT Kharagpur and a PhD. He is known for building innovation and startup incubation networks.
