Shillong: Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over the 73rd Plenary Meeting of the North Eastern Council in Shillong on Thursday. The session brought together governors, chief ministers, and senior officials from all eight northeastern states to coordinate regional development priorities.
Key attendees included Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia, Meghalaya Governor CH Vijay Shankar, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, and Union Minister of State for DONER Sukanta Majumdar. Also present were Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and DONER Secretary Sanjay Jaju.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang described the meeting as "crucial," noting that it would determine several projects and schemes for the region. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu underscored the council's role in guiding the area's development trajectory while focusing on collective efforts to support the national vision of Viksit 2047.
Established by the North Eastern Council Act of 1971, the council acts as the primary regional planning body for the area. The plenary session reaffirmed the importance of the organization in fostering growth and strengthening cooperative federalism across the Northeast.
