Shillong: BJP MLA AL Hek is standing by the Meghalaya Police. He insists the force did a brilliant job cracking the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi. This comes despite the High Court of Meghalaya slamming investigators for a total non-application of mind in the case.
Sonam Raghuvanshi allegedly killed her husband during their honeymoon. She walked free on bail recently. The court cited serious procedural lapses when the police communicated her arrest. These technical errors opened the door for her release.
The Supreme Court refused to block the bail order. Hek admitted that suspects in such high-profile killings usually belong behind bars. He stated, "From the criminal point of view, they should not be given bail as similar cases are being reported from different places."
Hek refused to blame the department for the botched paperwork. He argued that the speed of the initial arrest warrants praise. Critics now wonder if sloppy police work is breaking the justice system in the state.
