Itanagar: The Adivasi Welfare and Development Council gathered at the Public High School playground in Kachugaon on September 15. They marked the fourth anniversary of the 2022 peace accord. Leaders want results. The group is pushing for the immediate implementation of the settlement terms, specifically the granting of Scheduled Tribe status to the Adivasi community in Assam.
Subhash Tirkey, the council vice-chief, stood before the crowd to demand action. He argued that the current delay hurts the community. "Granting tribal status to the Adivasis in Assam is a key provision of the accord. Along with the other provisions, we want this provision to be implemented at the earliest," Tirkey said.
The 2022 deal involved the Centre, the Assam government, and five armed Adivasi groups. This agreement led to the formation of the Adivasi Welfare and Development Council. The event kicked off with a flag hoisting and a tribute to martyrs before shifting to a public meeting.
Bodoland Territorial Council Chief Hagrama Mohilary attended as the chief guest. He promised that the BTC government would secure land rights for Adivasi people equal to other tribal groups. Mohilary also vowed to pressure state authorities to honor the full accord. Other officials in attendance included MLAs Rupam Chandra Roy, Rabiram Narzary, and Sabharam Brahma. Council Chief Durga Hasda and Chairman Asim Hasda also joined the executive members at the ceremony.
