Shillong: Arts and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai announced that advanced technologies like 3D scanning, digital design, and artificial intelligence are revolutionizing prosthetic care. During the opening of a two-day training program in Shillong, Shullai stated that these modern manufacturing techniques are making high-quality rehabilitation services more affordable and accessible to people living in remote areas.
The initiative is a collaborative effort between the office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and Instalimb India Pvt Ltd. Professionals from across the North East are gathering at the U Soso Tham Auditorium to learn the latest 3D printing methods for creating assistive devices.
A key moment of the event involved the distribution of 3D-printed limbs to 12 individuals. These devices aim to restore mobility and independence for those who have undergone amputations. Shullai emphasized that the government remains dedicated to upholding the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2016 to ensure equality and social inclusion.
Beneficiaries expressed optimism regarding their new mobility aids. Nazareen Nongkhlaw, who received a prosthetic limb, described the device as "comfortable and easy to use." Participants at the event included state officials and rehabilitation experts who hope that building local expertise will provide a lasting boost to healthcare services throughout the region.
