Shillong: Crews are officially breaking ground at Shillong Airport. The state government told the Meghalaya High Court that contractors have started work on the runway expansion project. Work began following a court order issued on August 5, 2026.
Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh presided over the Division Bench hearing. The court pushed the matter to October 29. Judges ordered the state to file a fresh status report before that date.

Separately, the state government reported to the Meghalaya High Court that it is launching a crackdown on drug peddling. Additional Senior Government Advocate AH Kharwanlang told the bench that officials have started specific operations to choke off the local drug trade. The court gave the state until October 28 to file a full report on the progress of these anti-narcotics efforts.
