Shillong: The High Court of Meghalaya ordered the state government to provide a detailed affidavit on the Shillong Airport runway expansion. Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh issued the directive during Monday’s hearing.
Joint Director B. Bhushan of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation joined via video link. He told the bench the agency will grant execution-level permission once the state promises to clear all obstacles from the transitional and approach surface areas. The DGCA needs this specific undertaking to move forward.
Advocate General Amit Kumar asked for more time to prepare the report. The court granted the request, ordering the state to file the document before the next session. This affidavit must outline the specific roadmap for the construction work.
Kumar also promised to address concerns raised by Amicus Curiae Phuyosa Yobin. The state must report back on those issues at the next hearing. The court ordered relevant DGCA and state officials to attend the next session on July 23, 2026, either in person or through video conferencing.
