Kohima: The United Christian Forum reached out to Members of Parliament from the Northeast on July 26. They want lawmakers to stop the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026. The group labels the proposed legislation as “draconian.”
Officials fear the bill blocks natural justice for law-abiding citizens and charitable groups. The Forum wants parliamentarians to force a review by a Parliamentary Standing Committee. They argue the bill disrupts faith-based service despite claims it strengthens regulatory oversight.
Concerns mount regarding the future of civil society and constitutional balance. The Forum insists that administrative errors should not trigger asset seizures or harsh penalties. They demand clear safeguards for due process and judicial oversight.
India relies on charities to reach its poorest populations. The UCF asserts that educational and faith-based institutions must maintain their autonomy. They want a framework built on “transparency, proportionality, and trust.” To fix grievance procedures, the group demands an independent appellate authority for impartial adjudication.
