Tripura Prepares to Host Regional Parliamentary Conference in November

Agartala: Tripura takes center stage this November. The state capital will host the 23rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Association India Region Zone-III Conference on November 26 and 27. Speakers, deputies, and presiding officers from eight northeastern states will attend the two-day event alongside the NERIPSTR.

Legislative Assembly Speaker Rampada Jamatia visited New Delhi on August 7 to invite Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to the gathering. This event marks a major push for the state. Organizers originally pushed back the conference from April because of heavy monsoon rains.

Jamatia also lobbied the central government for more funding during his trip. He submitted a plan for a 50-room MLAs Guest House covering 25,000 square feet. The project carries an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore. He stressed that these upgrades are necessary for dignitaries.

The Speaker also met Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram to request Rs 84 lakh for student transit. This money would pay for buses to carry tribal students to Eklavya Model Residential Schools until local hostel facilities open. Jamatia noted, "Tripura is set to step into the national parliamentary spotlight this November."

Officials expect the conference to improve regional legislative dialogue. It will also highlight state efforts to push infrastructure and education projects forward. This event remains one of the largest parliamentary meetings ever held in Tripura.
