Agartala: Police in South Tripura are investigating the deaths of three family members found inside their home in West Muhuripur. Officers discovered 65-year-old Shankar Chakraborty, his 49-year-old wife Chhabi, and their 27-year-old son Krishna on Friday. The couple suffered multiple cut injuries and lay in pools of blood. Investigators found Krishna hanging from the ceiling.
Mithun Chakraborty, the elder son, arrived home on July 24 to find the house locked from the inside. After failing to get a response, he alerted the police. Teams from Baikhora and Belonia police stations arrived, alongside the Additional Superintendent of Police, to break into the residence. Forensic experts have since combed the scene for evidence.
Mithun told the media that Krishna had returned home early on the day of the incident to perform a religious ritual. He later sent his brother to retrieve a locker key from an uncle. Mithun claims his brother recently married against the wishes of the bride's family. He suggested the woman's family could be involved, though police have made no official arrests. Mithun stated, "There had been no domestic disputes within our family."
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Diptanu Das confirmed that post-mortem examinations were scheduled for July 25 to establish the cause and time of death. Authorities have not confirmed a sequence of events. No suicide note was found at the scene. Police are currently questioning neighbors and relatives while keeping all investigative angles open.
