Tensions Flare Over Access to Leimakhong Farmland

Imphal: Tensions are boiling over in Leimakhong. Residents report blocked access to vital agricultural fields and targeted harassment. A paddy field sustained damage on October 3 at the hands of unknown miscreants. The situation remains volatile.

Reports indicate that Naga people have stopped Kuki residents from Leimakhong-Khunkho from tending to their crops for two days. One individual attempting to work their land faced direct intimidation and was forced to retreat. Others simply could not reach their property.

Commuters traveling from Kangpokpi encountered roadblocks at multiple locations. Travelers headed toward their homes or fields were ordered to turn back. This route has served as a standard path for local movement for years. The Imphal Times received reports that "people coming from Kangpokpi were allegedly stopped at different locations and those heading towards their fields and residences were reportedly asked to turn back."
