Imphal: The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has accused the governments of Manipur and India of practicing selective justice regarding violence against Naga civilians. The organization demands that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs either assign these cases to the National Investigation Agency or establish a high-level central commission. Between April and August 2026, the TNL recorded 12 separate incidents involving abductions, ambushes, and arson.
The latest violence occurred early Tuesday, September 1, when armed groups allegedly burned 38 homes and four vehicles in the Liangmai Naga villages of Makui Piporam and Tapon, located in Kangpokpi district. Tapon village pastor Luithuibou Newmai remains in critical condition after being shot during the assault. The TNL attributes this attack to the Kuki National Front-Presidential and the Kuki Revolutionary Army, under the alleged leadership of KNF-P Home Secretary Jangboi Kipgen.
Previous cases cited by the group include the April 18 ambush at Litan Police Station, an April 24 attack on Naga Village Guards at Sinakeithei, and the May 13 abduction of 18 civilians at Leilon Vaiphei. Six of those victims were killed. The TNL also noted the August 27 ambush on the Imphal-Tamenglong Road, which left four people dead. Other documented attacks occurred in Kamjong, Noney, and at the Leilon Vaiphei border, involving killings, injuries, and the burning of homes in villages like Huimin Thana and Kherongram.
The TNL questioned why armed groups operating under the Suspension of Operations arrangement remain free to target civilians. Warning of a dangerous escalation, the organization called for total Naga unity. The committee stated, "The day when the situation escalates beyond control, will be the sole responsibility of the State and Central governments." The group seeks immediate compensation and rehabilitation for all affected families.
