Agartala: The Battala Smart City park is a wreck. Built with crores of rupees, this public space now sits abandoned by those meant to keep it clean and safe. Fish remains and discarded crates from the adjacent market pile up against the park wall, creating a stench that drives away pedestrians. The rot does not stop at the fence.
Visitors find liquor bottles tossed across the grounds. Even worse, residents report that groups gather inside after dark to use drugs. Local families now avoid the area entirely, fearing for their safety in a space meant for their enjoyment. Residents are rightfully angry. They demand to know why the Agartala Municipal Corporation and local police permit this decline. Municipal waste trucks frequent the area, yet market trash continues to clog the perimeter.
The public wants action, not just a ribbon-cutting ceremony. One resident stated, "Residents are questioning whether the creation of the park alone is sufficient, or whether regular cleaning, proper waste management, security and maintenance should also be ensured to make the facility genuinely useful to the public." Until authorities step up, the park remains a health hazard and a magnet for crime.
