Silchar Candidates Face Fraud Allegations Over Educational Degrees

Guwahati: Silchar’s upcoming corporation polls hit a snag. Social activist Nikhil Das claims several candidates filed nomination papers with forged educational certificates. He pulled the documents using the Right to Information Act.

The accusations span party lines. Das flagged irregularities among both BJP and Congress contenders. He noted that some candidates supposedly earned degrees from universities that did not exist when they were allegedly awarded. "The discrepancies came to light through information obtained under the RTI Act," Das stated.

Specific BJP candidates named in the claims include Papli Karmakar, Sumana Das, and Ataur Rahman. Das intends to fight these cases in court. The allegations remain unverified at this time, and the parties have yet to respond to the charges.
