Shillong police and students learn life-saving medical skills

Shillong: Health officials in East Khasi Hills wrapped up a week of intense medical training for Shillong’s frontline workers. Traffic police and Home Guard volunteers spent the week at the Police Reserve learning how to handle cardiac arrests, road accidents, and fractures. The initiative aimed to bridge the gap before ambulances arrive on the scene.

Doctors teamed up with the Additional Superintendent of Police and the Police Hospital to lead the sessions. Workers also got checked for diabetes and hypertension during a specific screening drive. These health checks ensure that those managing city traffic stay in fighting shape.

The training moved to the classroom on June 26. Teachers and students at St. Edmund’s Higher Secondary School learned how to stop bleeding and perform hands-only CPR. Health officials noted that these programs are designed to "empower individuals to respond confidently during medical crises" before professional help takes over.
