Shillong Clears Cluttered Hanging Wires Ahead of National Games

Shillong: Shillong is getting a facelift. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma ordered a massive cleanup of the city’s tangled overhead wires on Monday. He met with officials from MeECL, the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, and various internet and cable providers to coordinate the effort. They have until March to clear the mess before the National Games arrive.

The city currently suffers from a web of non-functional cables and abandoned infrastructure. These wires create serious safety hazards and ruin the look of the historic town. The government wants to fix this quickly to restore the visual appeal of local colonial architecture and scenery.

Sangma emphasized that the project will follow a phased, practical plan. "With the National Games approaching, we are committed to improving the city’s appearance through a phased, practical approach," Sangma said. All stakeholders must now work with the state to dump the clutter and stop the visual pollution that has plagued the streets for years.
