Shillong: Sohra shuts down seven key road stretches on September 4 for the 5th International Half Marathon. The Sohra Civil Sub-Divisional Officer issued a notice on August 31 detailing the sweep of the closure. Traffic stops dead from 4:30 am until 10 am.
The restricted paths include Mawkdok towards Sohra from Laitsohpliah near Meili Resort, Mawkrwa towards the Shillong-Sohra road, Laitmawsiang and Laitryngew roads connecting to the Shillong-Sohra road, and the Dainthlen Junction. Drivers must also avoid Khliehshnong, Sohra towards the Shillong-Sohra road, the Laitkynsew-Sohra road via Mawmluh, and the Lad Sohbar-Sohra road.
Authorities urge travelers and tourists to change their plans now. The notice states: "The administration has advised travellers, tourists and other members of the public planning to use these routes to adjust their itineraries to avoid inconvenience." Officials confirm that emergency vehicles, such as ambulances and fire tenders, retain full access during the event.
