Shillong: Ri Bhoi district officials slapped a ban on all new construction at Umden Mission Village. This freeze covers structural modifications and permanent or temporary buildings. The move clears space for the Shillong Airport expansion project. The Deputy Commissioner issued the public notice to stop unauthorized development and protect the government's land acquisition process.

The order hits landowners, institutions, and occupants hard. No one can build, renovate, or put up sheds until the administration says otherwise. The Deputy Commissioner stated: "No person shall commence or continue construction or improve existing structures with the intention of claiming enhanced compensation."

Officials will not pay for unauthorized work. Anyone ignoring the directive faces legal action. Improvements made after this notice fall entirely at the owner's expense. The mandate took effect immediately and sticks until further notice.
