Retired Teacher Accused of Misconduct with Census Worker in Nagaon

Guwahati: A retired teacher allegedly harassed a government census worker at a residential complex in the Uraiyagaon area of Nagaon. The incident occurred at Royal Abash when the worker visited flat 401 for enumeration duties. The worker left the flat in tears. Neighbors reported the incident, but police at Nagaon Sadar and Itachali stations refused to open a formal investigation because the victim did not file a report.

Locals claim pressure tactics were used to silence the woman. The residential management committee confronted the accused, Diganta Bhagawati, regarding the allegations. Bhagawati provided a written apology to the committee. He wrote, "I had shaken hands with the woman and kissed her on the forehead."

Residents remain worried about the safety of female government staff performing official duties. No formal police case exists at this time. None of the allegations against the retired teacher have been verified by outside sources.
