Shillong: The Presbyterian Youth Today International Network (PYTIN) held a seminar on the water crisis in Thangbnai village last Saturday. Residents of Mawkynrew Block in East Khasi Hills met to discuss sanitation, water scarcity, and environmental protection. PYTIN Finance Secretary Pynskhem Suting chaired the event, which brought together local elders, women, and students.
Dr. Johnny Steven Langstang, a medical officer at Riangdo Community Health Centre, led the health portion of the talk. He taught schoolchildren proper handwashing techniques and pushed for better community sanitation. Teacher and PYTIN member Sonfirstly Marbaniang tackled the root causes of the local dry season shortages. He blamed the water decline on deforestation and environmental damage. "He urged the community to stop indiscriminate tree felling, avoid littering, and actively safeguard natural water sources."
Locals expressed worry about shifting weather cycles during an interactive session. They noted that rising heat and unpredictable rain patterns make seasonal shortages worse. Thangbnai village Sordar Phrangsngi Pyngrope thanked the network for bringing the initiative to their area.
