Police Track Down Shillong Airbnb Vandals in West Bengal

Shillong: Shillong police caught five tourists from Uttar Pradesh who trashed a rental property in Risa Colony. The group fled the state after the incident. They were picked up by police in Alipurduar, West Bengal, on Sunday.

A homestay owner filed a complaint on July 11. The report alleged that the guests wrecked the place and threatened staff before skipping out on the bill. Viral footage of the damage fueled public anger and pushed authorities to act fast.

East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem dispatched a team to track the suspects immediately. Officers identified the group as Vikash Singh, Avinash Singh, and Akhand Singh, along with three minors aged approximately 17.

Police booked the group under Sections 351(3), 324(3), and 3(5) of the BNS. SP Syiem confirmed the legal status of the case: "A case was registered immediately. We coordinated with our counterparts, including the SPs of Kokrajhar and Alipurduar."

The suspects appeared before an Alipurduar court on Monday. Because the charges carry prison terms of less than seven years, the judge granted them bail. The investigation remains open.
