Imphal: Manipur Police and security forces seized 49.5 kg of suspected opium on July 12. The drugs were hidden inside an abandoned Hyundai Creta near Hengbung village. The vehicle ignored a checkpoint on National Highway-2 early that morning.

Officers at the T Khullen checkpoint signaled the SUV to stop at 6 am. The driver refused and sped toward Nagaland. Police chased the white vehicle until they found it parked near the Hengbung Baptist Church. The ignition key was still in the slot, but the driver had vanished into the woods.

A search of the SUV turned up 49 packets of narcotics. Officials confirmed the vehicle belongs to 52-year-old Z Reithingam, who lives in Dimapur. Police stated, "The seized narcotics and the vehicle have been handed over to Senapati Police Station for further legal action."

Authorities are now hunting for the suspect. The investigation remains active as they track the driver's whereabouts.
