Kohima: Pfutsero Government College hosted a seminar on September 29 to break down the National Education Policy 2020. Educators from Pfutsero and Phek Government College attended the event. They tackled implementation strategies, research, and digital learning. Dr. Wetsou Medo chaired the opening session while Principal Dr. Anungla Pongener welcomed the attendees.
Dr. Medongoi Rhakho presented the concept note. He urged a shift away from the old British model. He argued for a system that treats all students as potential successes rather than winners and losers. He advocated for a cafeteria approach. This gives students the freedom to pick subjects based on their personal goals.
Dr. Boyillapalli Venkata Rao led a discussion on multidisciplinary education. He pushed for interdisciplinary approaches to spark critical thinking. Success relies on institutional prep and policy, he noted. Later, Dr. Samadangla mapped out the hurdles of policy rollouts. She pushed for the use of SWAYAM and clearer links between local colleges and Nagaland University.
The afternoon panel turned toward innovation. Dr. Samadangla looked at ways to weave Naga indigenous knowledge into the modern curriculum. Akangjungshi Longkumer explored the role of Artificial Intelligence in academics. He gave a warning to the crowd. He said, "AI should be used as a tool for thought. AI should challenge, it should not obey."
The event concluded with closing remarks from Mhabeni W. Staff proposed creating core committees to manage the transition. They want better channels to voice concerns to the government. The day covered everything from skill courses to the ethics of machine learning.
