Outrage Grows After Sexual Assault of Minor in Dimapur

Kohima: A wave of condemnation has emerged following the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Dimapur. The accused, O. Watimeren Jamir, faces charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, sparking widespread demands for accountability from student unions, political parties, and women groups across the region.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma joined the call for justice, labeling crimes against children as unacceptable. He urged authorities to conduct a swift and fair investigation, stressing that such acts must be addressed firmly through legal channels to protect vulnerable children from future exploitation.

The Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) expressed deep concern over the incident and insisted that the Special Investigation Team conduct an impartial probe. The group stated that the accused must be held accountable without any external interference or special treatment.

In response to the case, ENWO reiterated its strict policy against sending children away to work as domestic helpers. The organization warned parents and potential employers that children should only live away from home for educational purposes. ENWO officials confirmed they will monitor the investigation closely to ensure the legal process is upheld.
