Outrage erupts in Assam over barefoot tea processing allegations

Guwahati: Public fury is boiling over in Dibrugarh. Claims emerged that workers at Sonjyoti Tea and India Private Limited in Lahowal are packing tea leaves with their bare feet. The factory sits at Madarkhat, and the alleged practice has triggered massive safety concerns across the region.

The Lahowal Regional Students Union condemned the factory operation. They are demanding a full inquiry and legal consequences for the management. The group labeled the reported behavior as highly deplorable and termed it a serious threat to public health.

Critics are now pointing fingers at the Food Safety Department and the Tea Board. They want to know why these agencies failed to monitor the manufacturing site. Regular inspections must happen to stop this from happening again. The student organization warned of mass agitation if officials do not step up, yet factory management remained silent when asked for comment.
