Guwahati: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation is pushing hard to boost development at Amraghat in the Cachar district of Assam. This follows a fresh discovery of gas at the site. ONGC Director Om Prakash Sinha visited the Amraghat Gas Extraction Plant to inspect the project. He reviewed the hydrocarbon potential, technical specifications, and general progress of the site work.
"Gas has been found at Amraghat and work on the project is progressing rapidly," Sinha said. The plant currently pumps out more than one lakh units of gas every single day. Operations at the site run around the clock to meet demands. ONGC geoscientists determined that the site needs a dedicated pipeline to transport the extracted gas.
The project holds the necessary environmental clearances for oil and gas production. While the Barak Valley has a five-decade history of gas production, Sinha believes this site creates new opportunities for the region. He expects the project to draw in investment and create local jobs. The company is also running health and education initiatives through corporate social responsibility programs.
Sinha toured the facility with several top officials. These included Basin Manager K. Karvannan, Silchar Forward Base Head A.K. Walia, and GM-LMDS S.K. So. They focused on maintaining momentum for this ongoing expansion.
