Kohima: The Ongpangkong Students’ Conference is pushing back against attacks on veteran politician Dr. SC Jamir. Leadership within the student body feels deeply disturbed by the backlash following Jamir's recent comments on Naga political affairs. President Tongpangmangyang Kichu and General Secretary Sungkumjang Kichu issued a statement on September 24 backing the directives of the Ao Senden and the Ao Students’ Conference.
The group insists every Naga citizen holds the right to free speech. They contend that Jamir offered his personal views without any intent to cause harm. The NSCN (IM) previously targeted the leader, labeling him an individual who is “not mandated and authorized” to speak on these matters. The militant group also claimed he was merely “talking for the sake of barking” and denied he holds status as an advocate for the Naga people.
OKM officials blasted these remarks as unacceptable and uncalled-for. They maintain that anyone who understands the local political process should be allowed to contribute their voice. The conference warns that this cycle of accusations only deepens divisions among the public. They called on all stakeholders to stop the bickering and focus on securing a timely, honorable settlement for the region.
