Shillong: The National Human Rights Commission issued notices to Delhi government officials and police following reports of a child injured during Monday's Chalo Sansad protest. A bench led by member Priyank Kanoongo wants answers. The commission expects an Action Taken Report within two weeks.
The complaint alleges a 12-year-old girl suffered a head injury while protesting in the capital. It calls for her rescue, immediate medical care, and an appearance before the Child Welfare Committee. The commission is also looking into whether authorities manhandled the child during the event.
Investigators must now identify who brought the girl to the demonstration. They must determine if violations occurred under the Juvenile Justice Act. The commission also directed a probe into social media posts by journalist Sourav Das. If the information he shared on X is deemed misleading, the body wants an FIR registered against him and the platform.
Delhi Police flatly denied the reports of injuries. They issued a formal rebuttal on X to address the rumors. "This information is false. The claims being circulated in the posts are not true. Please do not spread or amplify false or misleading information," the police stated. Officials rejected claims that 40 to 50 people suffered head injuries during the protest.
