Kohima: Health officials in Mon district finished their week-long World Population Day campaign on July 18, 2026. The drive pushed the theme of healthy timing and spacing between pregnancies to protect mothers and children. The District Programme Management Unit of the National Health Mission ran the show.
The event kicked off on July 11. Moie Bonnie Konyak led orientation sessions for health staff, focusing on how to find beneficiaries and get the community talking. The campaign hit hard. Local ASHAs and coordinators held group discussions and personal meetings with about 220 mothers.
A mobile unit called Mission Parivar Vikas SAARTHI Awareness on Wheels visited villages to explain family planning options. Staff provided IUCD insertions, Antara injectable contraceptives, condoms, oral pills, and emergency medicine. Records show 367 IUCD insertions and 233 Antara doses given to residents.
Success came down to a team effort. Medical officers, healthcare workers, ASHAs, and block program managers worked together to deliver services. The National Health Mission stated, "NHM Mon reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening family planning services and enabling safe, voluntary and informed reproductive health choices." The district now looks to maintain this momentum for maternal and child health.
