Mokokchung Sets Dog Registration and Vaccination Drive for September

Kohima: Mokokchung Municipal Council starts its annual dog registration and vaccination drive for the 2026-27 period on September 2 and 3. Officials kick off the work at 8 am each morning. The MMC runs this operation alongside the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services and the Animal Welfare Union Mokokchung.

Atsungba Walling, the ADC and CEO of the MMC, confirmed the schedule. Each ward must set up a space for the vets and provide two volunteers for the teams. Ward chairmen hold the power to sign off on registration renewals. Owners who handed in dog tags after last year’s event should pick them up now, though those who kept theirs can keep using them.

"The fees for new registration, renewals, vaccinations and utilisation charges will remain unchanged," the council stated. Anyone who lost a tag needs to file a replacement request at the MMC office by August 27. Registration cards are also available for pickup at the office during normal working hours on that same date.

The September 2 schedule covers the wards of Salangtem, Alempang, Alongmen, Sangtemla, Tongdentsuyong, Arkong, Penli, Dilong, and Sungkomen. The team moves to Yimyu, Lijaba Lijen, Mongsenbai, Kumlong, Kichutip, Aongza, Marepkong, Majakong, and Artang on September 3. Residents with questions should call Dr. Wati, the Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, at 9436007607.

The council officially designated the operation as a mandatory exercise for the entire municipality. Ward leaders must submit a detailed list to the council office by the August 27 deadline to secure replacement tags for any missing inventory.
