Imphal: Manipur International Trade and Economic Cooperation officials met today at Classic Grande in Imphal. They want a firm plan. The group argues that the state must resettle internally displaced persons and restore order before restarting border trade. Ch. Ibohal Meitei, Watham Nabachandra, Anil Haorokcham, L. Dwijamani Singh, and MITEC President Priyobanta attended the general body meeting.
MITEC Secretary Moirangmayum Chandrakishore pushed for better local access under India's Act East Policy. He noted that third-country goods currently hurt small local traders. He wants the government to prioritize local products and participation. Chandrakishore stated, "The State and Central governments should prioritise the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and restoration of normalcy before reopening border trade."
The conflict has hit the ground hard. Khuraijam Khamba Meitei, an executive member, said the fighting choked movement between Meitei and Naga communities in border towns. Officials are now calling for a return to free interaction to stabilize the area. They view resettlement as the only path to jumpstarting economic activity.
