Kohima: Minister for Higher Education and Tourism Temjen Imna Along stated that Nagaland must prioritize human resource development over building new infrastructure to ensure a successful future. He argued that focusing solely on physical expansion without improving the quality of the workforce could lead to a failed state.
Speaking at the inauguration of three PM-USHA projects at Dimapur Government College, the minister emphasized that society must adapt to rapid global changes, such as artificial intelligence and technological shifts. He urged citizens to take collective responsibility for progress rather than relying exclusively on government efforts to address issues like unemployment and economic development.
To combat high unemployment rates among educated youth, Along pushed for a shift toward practical, skill-based education. He proposed transforming Dimapur Government College into a Yuva Tourism Hub that integrates tourism with academic life. This initiative would include the development of visitor facilities, fitness centers, and biodiversity parks designed to generate both revenue and new employment opportunities.
The inaugurated projects include a new academic building, an incubation center and skill hub, and a girls hostel. Along praised the quality of these construction efforts, noting that recent government infrastructure projects under schemes like RUSA and PM-USHA reflect a new standard of efficiency and commitment from both state and central authorities.
