Shillong: The Meghalaya government officially named the Meghalaya Investment Promotion Authority as the state nodal agency for all building and construction permits. This shift acts as a single point of contact for investors to get projects moving. The decision follows the Cabinet Secretariat Compliance Reduction and Deregulation Exercise 2026 Phase 2.0. It also meets specific goals set by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade to improve the local business environment.
MIPA will handle procedural help and link various departments for new investment proposals. The agency brought in KPMG India to provide extra advisory and administrative support. The firm now tracks approval timelines and manages investor complaints. They also handle the processing of applications and coordinate with different regulatory bodies.
Architects empanelled by the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority will now act as designated facilitators. These professionals assist applicants in securing necessary clearances and No-Objection Certificates for new development projects. A government notification explains that these changes aim to simplify how things work. The government stated the move is intended to "expedite the approval process and resolve procedural bottlenecks to ensure the timely disposal of applications."
Officials will also form a State Regulatory Task Force. This group includes heads of relevant departments and regulatory authorities. It acts as a final layer to clear hurdles and push approvals through the system faster.
