Meghalaya Lok Adalat Clears Cheque Bounce Cases Worth 11 Lakh

Shillong: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority settled cases totaling Rs 11,31,050 during a Special Lok Adalat on Saturday. The session focused exclusively on disputes under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. Most of these matters involved cheque bounce incidents. The goal is simple: clear the court backlog.

National authorities guided the event. It ran under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority and the patronage of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere. Oversight came from Justice HS Thangkhiew, the Executive Chairman of the MSLSA, alongside Justice W. Diengdoh, who chairs the High Court Legal Services Committee. These officials coordinated the effort to reduce pending litigation. They aimed to push these disputes out of the formal court system.
