Shillong: Meghalaya election officials kick off a massive voter verification drive on June 30. Booth-level officers will fan out across the state to visit homes in every Assembly constituency. This operation runs until July 29. Officers will hand out self-enumeration forms to everyone listed on the 2005 electoral rolls.

The Election Commission set that 2005 list as the baseline for this project. They want clean records. The goal is simple: confirm who lives where and make sure eligible voters are on the books. East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal urged locals to work with the staff. He said the objective of the exercise is "to include, not exclude" eligible voters.

The state needs accurate data. This house-to-house check is the primary method to keep future ballots error-free. Officials expect total cooperation from residents during the month-long push.
