Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma sat down Monday to audit progress on a massive overhaul of the Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills Autonomous District Councils. The state wants these bodies to clean up their act. Both councils have agreed to modernize their internal systems and adopt sweeping institutional changes.
The state government pushed the councils to partner up on these improvements. Sangma says the work is officially underway. The reforms target service rules, financial management, and administrative processes. Digitization sits at the heart of this strategy to build a more transparent system.
These changes aim to slash red tape for residents. Citizens should find it easier to pay taxes and handle fees once the new tech rolls out. The goal remains simple: better service for the people. During the review, Sangma stated, "The reforms will focus on service rules, financial management, administrative procedures and digitisation to improve the efficiency, transparency and citizen-centric functioning of the Councils."
He expects the district councils to see a major boost in performance. The administrative shift prioritizes clear, fast access to government functions across the state.
