Manipur Youth League Backs Sangai Festival Boycott

Imphal: The Manipur Youth League, known as MAYOL, is fighting the state government over the Sangai Festival. They claim holding the event now is a mistake. Violence began on May 3, 2023, and shows no signs of stopping. It is year four of the crisis.

The group demands the government focus on peace and those hit hardest by the fighting. Many families are still in shambles. Thirty-three people remain unaccounted for today. Displaced citizens cannot return to their homes, and school children face a broken future.

MAYOL blasted political leaders focused on the 2027 Manipur Legislative Assembly election rather than current suffering. They argue that government events only work if the public trusts the administration. The league stated, "The conflict that began on May 3, 2023, had entered its fourth year without a lasting resolution."

Civil society groups want the festival scrapped. MAYOL agrees with that boycott. They want officials to look at the ground reality before trying to run public events. Peace comes first.
