Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress members marched to the Chief Minister's bungalow in Imphal on Saturday. They demanded immediate recruitment for over 50,000 vacant government posts. The protest operated under the banner of the Meri Degree Ka Kya? campaign. It seeks to end the current employment crisis for local youth.
Demonstrators left Congress Bhavan and moved toward the bungalow. Police and Rapid Action Force personnel blocked their path. Officers shoved protesters away from the gates, but the crowd pushed forward. Security personnel ultimately forced them back. They retreated to Congress Bhavan.
Leaders spearheading the march included All India Youth Congress National General Secretary Tarh Johny and Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress President W. Anand Singh. They criticized the BJP-led government for linking hiring to electoral politics. Johny warned the state about the scope of the movement. He stated, “The present protest was only the first step.”
The group presented a list of specific demands. They want a fixed annual recruitment calendar and an immediate stop to contractual hiring. They also asked for transparent legislation and a reduction in application fees to one rupee. This march follows a separate rally held on September 18 by government employees who also raised concerns about staffing vacancies. Youth Congress organizers vowed to keep the pressure on until the government adopts these reforms.
