Imphal: Manipur authorities removed the principal of Eklavya Model Residential School at Zeikhuluang Loktak Project on August 3. Videos of the students surfaced on social media. They show the dire state of the campus. The school operates under the Eklavya Model Residential School scheme to serve tribal students. It clearly failed to provide basic necessities.
The Manipur Society for Tribal Educational Institution, which acts under the Tribal Affairs and Hills Department, issued the removal order. The document states the principal is now attached to the office of the Member Secretary of the MSTEI. The order took effect immediately and overrides all previous instructions.
Critics demand a full inquiry into the facility. They want officials to ensure students gain access to proper meals, healthcare, and shelter. Advocates insist on "immediate corrective measures to safeguard the health, welfare and dignity of the students and prevent a recurrence of such incidents." The government faces pressure to stabilize the situation for all students at the Loktak site.
