Imphal: Manipur Congress leaders marched through Imphal on Wednesday, July 22. They targeted the Governor over the detention of opposition leader Rahul Gandhi. The rally began at Congress Bhawan and moved toward Lok Bhawan. Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh led the charge. He was joined by CLP leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh, CWC member Gaikhangam, and various senior MLAs.
The group handed a formal memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla. The document demands the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. It also calls for a full parliamentary debate on recent exam paper leaks and testing scandals. The party wants all FIRs against protesting students in Delhi dropped immediately. Hundreds of workers joined the march to chant slogans against the BJP-led Central Government.
Rahul Gandhi was taken by Delhi Police on Tuesday. He was protesting near the Prime Minister's residence with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Akhilesh Yadav. They demanded accountability for youth unemployment and exam failures. Minister of State Jitendra Singh and Home Secretary Govind Mohan failed to negotiate a deal with the protestors before the arrests occurred.
Keisham Meghachandra Singh condemned the police action on social media. He insisted that the government must stop stifling dissent. Describing the arrest, Okram Ibobi Singh told reporters that the detention of Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders was "undemocratic and unlawful." The party remains defiant. They pledged to continue highlighting the struggles of students and the marginalized despite ongoing pressure from the state.
